Topography: Austria’s landscapes range from the peaks of the Alps to hills and plains. Austria’s highest mountain is the Grossglockner (3,798 m); its longest river is the Danube.
Climate: Austria has a Central European climate with distinct seasons. The temperature in the summer may exceed 35°C and sometimes fall as far as -15°C during the winter.
Economy: Agriculture includes pastoral farming in the high Alps, a very important forestry industry, cattle ranching, as well as intensive crop, orchard and vineyard cultivation in the valleys. Austria is also a high-tech country which is successful in many different industries (i.e. the paper, chemical, textile and electronic industry). Another focus is on tourism and services. In summer and winter Austria is a popular holiday destination.
