This workshop delivered by Paul Gibson (English in Action) will focus on listening skills and a look at some fun, practical and imaginative communicative activities that you can use in class to keep your students motivated and listening and reacting naturally. An interactive workshop aimed at providing you with lots of ideas that you can take away and use in class the following day.
Discover Ireland
In this workshop, we will take a look at teaching students about a country. It has been proven that students of all ages learn with fun activities. What games, worksheets and activities can be used to captivate students’ attention? This session will focus on Ireland and its culture. So, have you ever brought your students on a “6-minute tour of Ireland”? How much can they actually learn and retain in 6 minutes? This activity is not just restricted to teaching about Ireland! Incorporate Ireland in fun ways in your classroom and learn a bit about Irish symbols, geography, culture, language, sports, music, songs and dance, fun facts etc. Enhance your English lessons and adapt and tweak these ideas to suit different levels and ages.
Stress Management Toolkit for Teachers
This 3-hour workshop is broken down into three parts each part with a tool to take away and use in your daily lives. The first section explores the difference between having thoughts and emotions and being our thoughts and emotions. This is followed by an exercise in letting go. In the second section we will do some problem-solving exercises. The last section focuses on relaxation and effective ways to relax and why they are effective.
Lights, camera, language – videos that bring English to life!
Using video in the ELT classroom has many benefits. It can be inspiring, surprising, fun, informative, and humorous. It can provide authentic language input and enhance listening comprehension. It can also increase engagement, deepen understanding of cultural context, stimulate discussion, harness the power of stories, and cater to different learning styles. In this session, using examples of both authentic and purpose-made ELT videos, we’ll explore some of the advantages of video, as well as some of the potential pitfalls – and we’ll look at practical ways of exploiting video material effectively.
A Creative Lab for English Teachers: Designing Digital Learning Experiences with eSquirrel
Using digital tools in the ELT classroom can make learning more interactive, motivating, and effective. eSquirrel is a certified learning experience platform and app that offers ready-made courses based on popular textbooks (MORE!, Prime Time, Into English) as well as the option to create your own exercises with the free Author Tool. In this session, we’ll explore the benefits of using eSquirrel, step into the learner’s perspective, and design our own digital activities. We’ll also discuss practical ways to integrate eSquirrel into your lessons and funding opportunities for your school.
